In honor of my deadline today. (The manuscript gets up loaded to the publisher today). I thought I'd answer a question I got yesterday. DiggX wanted to know where I got my inspiration for The Virgin's Guide to A Queer Prophecy. Well, it all started with this map I drew when I was sick, and spent two months in bed. I love maps, and have always loved drawing fantasy worlds. Here it is.
As I started to write the book (four years ago) I used Adobe Illustrator to a create a new map which helped me describe a key location central to the novels plot, Land's End. This island is featured even more in the sequels. You'll see a Bodega Bay (above), I choose that to be the name of the main galleon in the story. I had a lot of fun making this map.
When I look at this map today I see how much has changed from some of my original ideas. For example, here Wishbringer is a little old lady with charmed cats, instead she developed into a sassy black drag queen who is the Queen's Mage. A boat filled with traveling actors was the first place I had the Novice (Virgin) falling on. I changed them to a band of pretend but sexy pirates.
Well as I said today's the big day. Next up - getting the cover in order with help from cover artist Dan Greene.
